My journal is friends only. If you really do want me to friend you, then please comment here. I'm sorry, I won't friend empty journals, journals that have mainly memes in them, non-current journals, or journals that are really not HP-oriented. Do NOT ask me to friend you if you are not a legal adult in your jurisdiction. That may mean 18 or 21 in your country. If your age is not listed in your user info, please leave a statement letting me know that you're legal in your comment. Please do not friend me if you are not an adult in your jurisdiction.

If you are here because of my fanfiction, it is all posted publically and not under friends-lock, and for the moment can be found here.

Thanks for being understanding!

PSA: I aten't dead yet

August 26th, 2008 (09:25 pm)
current mood: tired

I've been running like a mad woman, but what's new I hear you ask! Half of my staff have turned over in the past few months and I've been away from home an average of 2 weeks in four for the past few months, but such is life. It's not going to settle down before the end of the year which is a bit of a bugger.

I raced back to Tokyo last week to do a cleanup on Youngest Son's tiny flat and now have video evidence that should leave him scarred for the rest of his life. I hope! ^_^

What little free time I have, mainly late at night, has been taken up with the shiny that is Japanese anime. And Japanese pretty boys. And Japanese seiyuu. Japanese voice actors making happy, dirty, NC-17 rated audio porn with those beautiful voices. Because the Japanese know how to develop a market better than anyone. Manga? Fantastic. CD drama adaptations of manga, complete with moans and whimpers? Makes me happy. Here's a taste. This is just one track from one of my favourite cds, with Miki Shinichirou um, inspiring Kamiya Hiroshi. Ignore the description; the boys' cohort has reached that age where they're starting to grow up and we had our first wedding this month and another one in November. It makes us, the group of mums of these wonderful boys, proud and happy that they've all grown up so well. Anyway, yes, the track is in Japanese. No, you don't need to know Japanese. Listen to it anyway and you can see why I'm going to sleep with a smile on my face and why my porn vocabulary is expanding. For god's sake, use headphones or make sure you're alone. :D

And now I'm going to run away again. I have to drive 600km tomorrow and I'll be gone from home for a couple of weeks.

Much love to you all! ♥♥♥

Vote now, vote Squeaky!

I'm sure everyone already knows that Squeaky's standing for the LJ Advisory Board. I voted for him.

I appreciate Squeaky's honesty and his open communication with us and I hope he can encourage that on LJ.

My home is here on IJ but I have a second LJ that I run for POT fandom in the interests of not spamming everyone continuously with orgasmic cries of "Oh my god, Tezuka, how are you so hot?" ;) It's a basic account and I'll never upgrade it, despite having to periodically go and cry on [info]nimori's shoulder about the lack of icons.

I still care about LJ. There are comms there that aren't replicated here, friends there that didn't come across. I still want it to be good, you know?

So I've voted 1 for Squeaky, and if you have an LJ I'd encourage you to sign in and go and have a look at Squeaky's statement and then vote 1: Squeaky too.

This is probably a good time to confess that I haven't read my flist since the last week in December, so I have no idea what's been happening with you all or in Snarry fandom since I deserted for the bright and shiny crack that is Prince of Tennis. *hangs head* Seriously, you should all blame [info]nimori. She has no shame. Real Life has been crazy as well. Briefly, I've been back to Japan twice, taking Eldest Son for his first visit and then racing back the week before last to see Youngest Son graduate from university and help him move into the inner-city now that he is a corporate drone. First time driving in Japan, and we're going straight into Tokyo city, kids! Work is as mad as usual and I'm up to my neck in funding applications. Too much work, not enough staff. Story of my life!

*stubs toe in dirt*

Forgive me? And tell me any exciting news and gossip that's been happening for you? I hope only good things have been! But tell me the news, folks, and I shall try and piece my life back together!

I think the cats are determined to come with me next time! )

Fic rec: To Keep Calendars in the Absence of Time

current mood: delighted

I? Am the luckiest Toy around. I've been gifted with an absolutely fabulous fic for [info]merry_smutmas this year.

To Keep Calendars in the Absence of Time is one of the very best Snupins I've ever read and that it was written for me makes me squee with delight.

I don't want to spoil it for you, but suffice it to say that this is a magnificent character study of Snape. It's a canon-compliant, slow-building exploration, a detailed, heart-catching examination that brings with it some of the hottest Lupin and Snape around within a perfectly realised and enthralling world.

Spoilers for DH if you're one of the two people who haven't read it yet!

Go! Go and read! If you're going to be offline over Christmas, treat yourself and print this out. It's magnificent and you will not regret it one bit.

Title: To Keep Calendars in the Absence of Time
Rating: NC-17
Pairing: Snape/Lupin
Summary: Severus finds that there can be many reasons to keep track of the days, even in a place where time has no meaning.

Things that have caught my attention today:

  1. Happy Birthday, Titti! I hope it's an absolutely super day for you!

  2. I find that I am nowhere near as obsessive as some, but I can be wildly excited by the results of someone's obsession. Click here for the perfect example. This fan has made the most wonderful miniatures of Snape's office and Spinner's End

  3. [info]swtalmnd forced me to upload a video of seagulls circuiting for food that I saw in Japan on Christmas 2004 and now won't watch it! So you all should. :D It's only 30 seconds of your time, and they're great seagulls. Only in Japan!

  4. [info]nimori is the most wicked enabler on the face of the planet. I am now watching the Prince of Tennis live action movie on You Tube. Also, Ryozuka for the win (but only when Ryoma is over 18, of course!)

  5. I miss Tim Hortons. In fact, I miss it enough that I'm going to try and make a breakfast sandwich. If it works, I shall post the Australian recipe. [info]lauriegilbert, I shall post results of my experiments. Oh, and I'll need to take photos for comparison!

  6. Anyone who likes Snape should immediately friend [info]akatnamedeaster because her art is sooooo gorgeous. *licks the screen*

Cons and travels and travails

December 8th, 2007 (06:26 pm)
current mood: tired

Best Christmas present to myself ever: I am booked and paid for Sectus '09.

I was slack (and continue to be slack) and didn't make my posts about the cons, mostly because LJ went berserk and I had to get back to work and poof! there went my energy. I'd still really love to do it and maybe if I can move all my LJ pics to my website over Christmas, who knows? ([info]scarah, I've only just worked out how to upload the pics properly because I am an idiot!)

One of the reasons I want to make that post is because Sectus was the best con I've been to. The organisers of Sectus were incredible ([info]elanor, [info]annephoenix, [info]kabal42, [info]son_of_darkness and so many people whose IJ's I don't yet know, I'm looking at you all!) and they had the balance right between the fen and academic strands. They were slash friendly, ship friendly, porn friendly (or maybe that was just me ;) ) as well having some really interesting academic presentations. There were excusions to Alnwick Castle where we got to pet the owls and see the birds flown, and to Greenwich where we had a picnic lunch, got soaked in a summer rain storm and some of us rolled down the hill below the Greenwich Observatory. We jumped in puddles (okay, some of us did!) on our way back to the ferry and learned a lot of Interesting Facts, like which bridges were used in the HP films. :) The venue was super, casual and friendly (to the extent that there were announcements from the Ministry of Magic scrolling through their tv system). They had dinners, a ball, an auction, presentations, discussions and everything you could think of and it was marvellous. Of course, they also had the release of Book Seven, but that's never going to happen again.

And next time, Sectus will be in a castle. Oh my god, I love you people! Yep, we are heading into the depths of Wales for four days of heaven at Bodelwyddan Castle. Space is limited so for heaven's sake, book early! It's a fantastic price at £290, which includes registration and room and board for three nights, breakfast and evening meal for each day inclusive. Seriously, you won't see that anywhere else and you'll be absolutely kicking yourself if you leave it too long and discover the spaces are gone!

Now that I've finished squeeing, here's the rub. I'm not heading to the cons next year. I was going to go to Escapade in California next year, but it turns out I'm going to Japan in February rather than for Christmas due to Eldest Son not being organised in any way that matters. Youngest Son starts work full-time for his Company in April so will never have the blocks of time for fun and games again that uni students have, and I have forced Eldest Son to bite the bullet and go to see his brother's place in the world. As soon as I get home, I'm going in for a bit of surgery so I won't be up for travelling for a little while after that.

So, between kids and houses and cat mansions, 2008 is a year for me to save my pennies. This means I won't be going to the UK next summer, but I've arranged at work to be gone for June 2009 and they'll cope with the preparation for the end of the financial year without me. I'll fly home directly from England and be straight back into it.

But seriously, a castle? That's worth waiting a little for! Hope to see you all there!

Australia Post has brought me much goodness in the mail!

Remember how I bought [info]nakedbee's Rub-a-dub-dub, Snape in a tub at Prophecy and how delighted I've been to have it hanging on my wall? I took the opportunity to commission more art from [info]nakedbee and it's arrived!

First of all,Snape in a corset. And stockings. Oh, and a collar. Did I mention the collar?  )

Secondly, there's a photoset of eight shots, Unbuttoning Snape )

[info]nakedbee, I'd marry you and have your children if you weren't already taken by [info]mister_b33. Okay, I'd marry [info]mister_b33 without hesitation as well, because not only is he a fabulous Snape, he's a great sport! Yes, for those of you in the know, there is a sequel but it's not for posting! I couldn't be more delighted - every one of them gets an Outstanding!

In other news, after mailing three boxes to myself from Canada on 13 August, they have finally arrived! They've all been opened by Customs; I'm sure I'm on their "Open all mail because this person is a fruitcake and the amusement value is sure to be high" list! I had a wonderful time unpacking them all. So many wonderful memories!

Finally, a meme ganked from [info]lauriegilbert:

Dear Santa...

Dear Santa,

This year I've been busy!

In May I didn't flush (-1 points). In July I had a shoot-out with rival gang lords on the 5 near LA (-76 points). Last Sunday I committed genocide... Sorry about that, [info]swtalmnd (-5000 points). In January I pushed [info]jin_fenghuang in the mud (-17 points). Last Saturday I ate my brussel sprouts (1 points).

Overall, I've been naughty (-5093 points). For Christmas I deserve a lump of coal!

Sincerely,
snapetoy

Real Life: flat out. Audit preparation (audit is tomorrow, thank god), employing new staff (980km round trip plus interviews in one day - not fun), still trying to arrange builders, plasterers and painters (fucking show up when you say you're going to show up&*(^($#%), retraining the cats (they turned into complete savage while I was gone, the little horrors), garden is starting to look like there are real plants in there and so many daffodils, waiting for any and all mail from Canada (gets out slingshot for the Australia Post albatross)

Fandom: Did the [info]sshp_prophet edition tonight - skip 420 omg. Did not read anything, just collected links. I hope you're all well and happy!

That's it!

Time for a rant

September 2nd, 2007 (10:33 am)
current mood:
determined

I'm not the most rational creature at times and I'm happy to be the first to admit it. I let my emotional response taint my attitude towards things, sometimes in not very grown-up ways.

This is one of those times.

I am growing increasingly bitter towards Live Journal and Six Apart because of the sheer amount of time I'm having to put into infrastructure. I've finally transferred all my icons across this morning. Took me three hours. We moved the [info]sshp_prophet over yesterday; took eight hours in total for the three of us to relocate to comm, delete duplicate posts, change all the userinfo, set up an RSS feed, post to Stag and Doe, check everything and then delete the LJ content. I've learned how to use Semagic, LJ Sec and LJ Migrate; took a lot of hours and help from loving friends (yes, [info]gnomad, I'm looking at you in adoration!). I've put countless hours into reading so many posts on LJ Biz and my flists about what the latest happenings are, talking and fretting and deciding what to do, setting up journals and moving house. So far this week I've probably put six hours into saving images from LJ's Galleries, and I've only done 200 out of 600, and they all have to be uploaded and retagged before I even start thinking about putting up the posts from Sectus, Prophecy, the US, Canada and Japan.

These are hours I'm not re-reading Book 7, thinking about canon, working out plots, talking gleefully with friends or writing porn. Last night's tinyfic for Bring Back the Porn is the first real bit I've written since Book Seven came out. My mind is swirling with ideas and I have to keep shoving them aside to deal with this shit.

Six Apart? Can suck my cock. Which would be fine if I had one. But I'm very bloody cranky with them, and digging my heels in further.

I am never going back to them.

Eeeeek! I have successfully learned how to use the LJMigrate program to move the Prophet entries over the IJ.

Unfortunately, the backdate command does NOT work for communities and I am spamming the hell out of the 186 people on IJ who're watching the [info]sshp_prophet. Sorry!!!!

Please either unfriend or filter it off your IJ Flist for the next couple of days. Our next edition will be out Sunday morning US EST time.

My apologies again!

Home again

August 22nd, 2007 (08:07 am)

I'm back in the land of winter, and fuck, isn't it cold after being in sunshine for six weeks? But the blossom trees are swelling and spring is about to break on us and it's going to be beautiful!

I was blessed by the god of frequent flyers on the plane from Tokyo and had an entire row to myself which I promptly claimed by spreading my shit out to stop anyone else from grabbing them. Seven hours sleep on a plane! How magnificent is that?

My glorious Eldest Son was there to greet me and bring me home and it was fabulous to have those many hours with him before reaching the disaster zone that is my house. The drive was beautiful; spring has arrived on the coast already and it's so very green after the recent rains. Coming back up into the mountains where there's no green yet as we're still having hard frosts was a bit of a shock to the system!

Things to do over the next three days:

  • hang Snape in a tub in pride of place

  • call builders and painters to get quotes for walls and ceilings

  • get the rest of the pipes lagged

  • call an electrician to get all the wiring checked

  • take the car in for a wheel alignment and balance

  • call carpet cleaners back to get the lounge cleaned

  • move back furniture that can be moved

  • check the computer cabling because I may have lost the sound system, two usb hubs and the dial-up modem in the flood from the pipes

  • take the car to a sound system place to get an iSnape cable fitted

  • vacuum the clouds of cat hair and wash everything in sight

  • wash and rehang the curtains that the cats pulled down (wtf? were they swinging on them?)

  • finish the posts for Sectus, US, Prophecy, Canada and Japan

  • go through the mountain of mail and throw it all away

  • start weeding the garden and mow the lawn

  • start unpacking the boxes that have started to arrive

I shall have a busy time of it! I did drop in at work to pick up boxes and they tell me that everything has run like a dream while I've been gone and I therefore should go on leave more often. Yay!

I won't be on a lot over the next few days, but I will try and get into chat to pass on love and hugs. It's been an amazing six weeks and it was so, so good to meet so many of you, to spend time with friends that I love. It's also good to be home. ♥

Cutting the LJ friends list

August 20th, 2007 (07:44 am)

I'm culling my flist of those I know are cross-posting from LJ to IJ to remove the amount of double-reading I need to do, and I'm preferring Insane Journals over Live Journals, of course. If I have you friended in both places and you're posting generally the same content, I'll be cutting you from my LJ reading list.

Is it just me or does it feel strange to all of those of you who're doing the same thing I am? I feel a bit like I'm casting people adrift, in spite of knowing that I'm hanging on to you! *headdesks*

Moving to Insane Journal

August 14th, 2007 (09:32 am)

I've been impressed for weeks with Squeaky's attitude to fandom, enough that I'm moving over to Insane Journal permanently.

I've backed up my journal over there, and will go through and relink, and then delete most of the content here. I'll be letting the paid account lapse in October and using this only as a reading journal. I'll post links here when I put up things that folks are interested in rather than the everyday blathering that I do, probably for a few months, but I imagine that will lapse as well. I'll probably continue to check on Greatest Journal as well, but I imagine the centre of my blogging world will move to IJ.

Continuing in the grand tradition of stick figure porn, here's my thoughts on the whole situation: )

Subject: Important notice re After Class

August 8th, 2007 (02:03 pm)

After Class, the Snape/Harry Yahoo mailing list, has been deleted.

A new group has been made by Magic_Helmut (Happy Birthday, Rai!), Nimori and Snapetoy. The new group is located at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/stag_and_doe/ and has the same rules and mods as After Class. Due to a drive failure, we do not have a copy of the files from After Class.

We have therefore started a new database for Stag and Doe, in addition to the Fic Search database, and we ask members to add their favourite fics to help us rebuild the links.

We will continue to cross-post the editions of the SS/HP Prophet to Stag and Doe.

Please do not make any comments to this post regarding the name of the new group.

If you were a member of After Class, please join Stag and Doe.

Count down

July 7th, 2007 (03:09 pm)

I've been working 17 hour days for the past little while to make it happen, and I finally did it. I left work at 12.30am this morning with a clean desk. Clean because I'm having to take the final parts of our work report with me, and I'll finish it on the plane to London, or jolly well bust.

My to do list for the next seventeen hours:

  • finish the washing and ironing and pack the iron away so the cats don't burn the house down
  • pay the bills so I'm completely up to date
  • email [info]luthien because omg Monday we fly!
  • put the software for the mp3 thingy and organiser thingy on the toy AT BLOODY LAST!
  • email [info]gwyddfid with the password to my beast and for the broadband
  • try and stay under the 20kg limit when packing
  • pack the pretty boy drive somewhere in the bags
  • make sure all the insurance is up to date
  • email [info]cordelia_v about meeting up in New York
  • write up the itinerary and send it to my panicking family
  • omg empty the fridge because a green fridge is a bad thing to come home to
  • put everything on the chargers so I have plenty of battery life
  • try and catch up with scarah about the spoiler zone before I desert and leave her to it!
  • check final arrangements for the treasure cats
  • snuggle the treasures and sleep for ten hours

I drive to Sydney in the morning rather than fly because Eldest Son rang me while I was completely fucking insane sick and asked if he could borrow the tiny car while I was gone. In a moment of total stupidity weakness, I agreed, as long as he meets me at Sydney airport at 7.30am on 21 August and drives me home. Since then, of course, I've had to redo the insurance and registration because his Provisionary Driver's License is all of three weeks old.

I hug [info]luthien goodbye at Heathrow airport and then run for my plane to Amsterdam and then into a train where [info]maeglinyedi will be waiting for me at the end. And that night we're going to see OotP! Can there be anything better in the world?

My travel time in the UK has been cut back, so I'm going to come back for a month next year (probably autumn - then I'll have the reporting, submissions and end of the financial year nightmares out of the way) and I'll be able to take my time and 'splore properly, going north to Scotland and through the Lakes District and wandering, as I'm not going to make it far from London this time. Best to do it properly rather than in a mad rush, so I'll be looking for everyone outside London next year!

I'll be back in London on 13 July, and will get a local phone number, so here's a little poll where you can leave your phone number (but no one else can see it!) so I can call you when I get in. There are people I want to have lunch with ([info]lexin, I'll need your number) and people I want to go to pubs with (all you London toobs!). I do want to go to Cardiff for a day or so because omg Doctor Who! And then Sectus!

[Error: Invalid poll ID 1016878]

It's going to be fantastic.

ETA: Done and on my way. :D

I seem to have set up shop everywhere!

Greatest Journal
Lots of us are already set up there due to previous LJ blackouts, including the fandom newsletters. There's a couple of cool features that we don't have on LJ; you can see who's on the site when you are, there's a hit counter built into the posting system, you can stop people from friending you. On the other hand, there's not much choice of styles and your icons disappear if your journal is inactive for a while. And it won't let me update the icons atm, either! It's a relatively recent build of LJ, so there's tags, but you can't do that thing that LJ does where you can get the comments on someone else's post. That's something I find really useful for fics posted in fests, where the mod can post my fic, but I can track the post and get the comments. ♥ I'm shallow, but you all knew that!

Insane Journal
This seems like a happy place. The owner is actively welcoming new users from LJ, and seems to be using one of the latest LJ builds, so there's tags, tracking, search to find your friends. Also, permanent accounts are only US$30.00, and the ads disappear. However, it's also a downside that permanent accounts are only $30.00 - no ongoing revenue stream to buy servers, bandwidth and tech stuff to keep it running smoothly. I've asked Squeaky about this and will let you know his answer. ETA: Squeaky is happy with the price and says he's happy with the account setup, so I've bought myself a permanent account. :)

Journal Fen
For fen, by fen. That should be enough in and of itself to take us there, but there's a few things working against it. You can't create a free account, and you can't search the users database to find your friends. The LJ build they're using seems old, so there aren't those nifty features that we like about being here on LJ. And the biggy: you have to be 18 and over to use the site. I know that's an issue for a lot of people. The servers that host JF also host Slashcity, and a lot of us have webspace there. For all the comments you see about the robustness of the servers, I've only had my website go down a couple of times, and it's always been up again very quickly, and Robin is great with tech support.

I'm starting to believe also that I can follow multiple flists. The reason for this? Tabbed browsing. Thank you, Firefox! I normally have about 25 tabs open at any given time, so I've set mine up now to open the first few tabs for flists on LJ, GJ, IJ and JF automatically. Ultimately, I think, that need will disappear as we settle down to wherever we end up, because I'm a sheep. I'm going where the rest of you go and, after all, it's my flist that matters, isn't it? ;) I'm sure that's the case for each of us! I don't have any loyalty to LJ, so a lot of what's holding me here is inertia and the power of memory. My online history is here in all the rambling posts and comments. I've worked out a system to duplicate those posts I want to save, and will post them to wherever we end up.

So, if you're starting journals on other services, let me know, or friend me and I'll friend you back. Don't we live in interesting times?

LJ, GJ, IJ, JF and the beauty of Firefox

June 5th, 2007 (07:36 am)

Journal Fen

I really like the atmosphere here, and the very warm welcome we seem to be getting from the site owner, [info]squeaky. That's very encouraging. Encouraging enough for me to have worked out a layout and uploaded a stack of icons, anyway! After all the drama and intensity that's been on LJ for the past week, it's a pleasant change to discover some fun.

[info]squeaky's TOS seem very sensible, and it's clear that there's a welcome for fandom, so perhaps this is a viable alternative for us. I know that a lot of people have concerns about JF as a site due to the age restriction, but this might work well for us. Here's hoping we can find a happy place and settle down.

Technical assistance - anybody have some to spare?

June 1st, 2007 (10:18 pm)

My kingdom for a coder!

In an ideal world, someone would pop up right about now with a nifty program that'd let us export our LJs to the clones at JF and GJ. Does anyone know of such a program?

I have found another way, but it's pretty damned painstaking. Mind you, I think I'm going to do it over a couple of months and see how that works.

This way relies on using an LJ client. I use Semagic.

First, get your entries from LJ:
Log into LJ with Semagic, go into the history (Journal/View History), use the calendar to select an entry, and click Edit. That'll open up the old entry in the clipboard, with all your original information. Save the file, and then cancel the edit. It's worth while doing a stack of entries at once (I'm saving the files in date form eg. 20051022, so I can see them easily) as you need to log in and out of the servers.

Then, to post the entries to GJ/JF:
Edit the server at the Semagic log in screen to log into GJ, go to File/Open to open the files one at a time, and then post them. The entry will be posted with all the original information, including the time/date and settings.

The worse thing is the loss of comments, but I think I'm going to do that as a copy/paste into a single comment for each post, because I do treasure them.

I don't have a lot of confidence that something like this isn't going to happen again, and I think what will mainly keep us here is our history. We put a lot of ourselves into our LJs and the relationships we build here, and we don't want to lose that. If there's a coder who'd write the program to let us export/import, I think a lot of us would go, because we'd be able to go together. Lemmings! :D

Snarry Games Fic: Carnal Knowledge (SS/HP NC-17)

May 24th, 2007 (06:56 pm)

I'm home from work exhausted and trying to work out if it's worthwhile cooking dinner or whether I should just head for bed. One nice thing: my [info]snarry_games fic has been posted! [info]djin7, [info]aliciamasters and [info]reddwarfer have been wonderfully supportive, and I hope to start reading all the fabulous fics this weekend. Just as well that I can't vote, as I'm sure I'll be nowhere near caught up by the time the votes are counted! Six more weeks and hopefully we'll have the case load back under control before I head out for seven glorious weeks of freedom. I think bed and a fic to take with me is the best option. Night! /ramble

Author: Snapetoy
Title: Carnal Knowledge
Prompt: "Casualty of War"
Team: Postwar
Genre: romance/angst (not so much with the angst; I think I dudded out on that genre!)
Pairing: Snape/Harry
Rating: NC-17
Warnings: Look not for plot here, gentle reader.
Note: This is an alternative fic, written after work and my life went completely insane. I'll post the original fic eventually, with credit to the Snarry Games. Thanks so much to [info]nimori for checking it over for me. *hugs*
Summary: Snape is cursed during the war, and Harry has to cure him.

"You must be joking," Harry said, looking for some sort of twinkle effect in the paint of the Headmaster's eyes.

Dumbledore sat back in his frame and stroked his beard.

Best. Link. Ever.

April 13th, 2007 (09:26 pm)

That Queen of the Intahwebs, [info]gmth, totally rocks my cotton socks clean off my pink toes. Gina's linked me to the very best, most hilarious "news" article about Australia bar none.

If you are Australian, prepare to fall off your chair laughing.

The rest of you will also find it as funny as all get out if you know any Australians (and if you're reading this, you do!) and you can enjoy laughing at our foibles and our wicked, wicked ways.

I will totally down a slab of tinnies and a couple of bottles of Bundy if it'll help the effort!

April 12th, 2007 (08:45 am)

[info]joanwilder posted a list of why team [info]team_sowartime was the better team in this year's [info]snarry_games. I fixed it for her.

Wartime means focus and purpose being too busy for anything resembling sex; postwar means taking your pack kit off!

Wartime requires fitness; postwar induces the softness of disuse means you have the time to use those muscles in new and interesting ways.

Wartime sharpens the mind; postwar dulls the intellect lets you put all those fantasies into action.

Wartime counts the cost; postwar takes it all for granted celebrates survival.

Wartime makes clear who it is that you love—life is fragile; postwar makes it easy to never say the word—there will always be tomorrow tell them.

Wartime brings out the best and worst; postwar buries in mediocrity helps you find the very best.

Wartime holds fate in its hands; postwar rests on the laurels of others learns to live with fate.

Wartime knows how to kick ass; postwar knows how to sit on stroke, finger and fuck it.

Hope that helps you all to remember how you should vote! ♥

Five Fics Meme

March 7th, 2007 (07:15 pm)

Okay, I've been tagged by [info]gwyddfid in the five fics meme:

Post a list of your top five favourite fics you've written, regardless of fandom or the reason you love them. This isn't about the BEST things you've written, but what you LOVE most. Then tag five other people to do the same.

Do you know, I rather think this meme is going to reveal that I have a rather strong kink to the insertion of fingers/cocks/objects into arses, preferably Snape's fingers/wand into Harry's arse, but I can be creative. *blushes* Clearly, I'm much shallower than I think I am!

  1. Facing the Worst - SS/SB, SB/RL, SS/SB/RL NC17, Bloodplay, non-con, bestiality, magical bindings - I love this fic for many reasons. It was the second real fic I'd written, it was written for the very first Smutmas after Maeg, Nim and Gina said that I was capable of doing it, and was the first real challenge fic I had and I met the challenge, Maeg was my beta: they're all reasons caught up around these few thousands words for me to love it. I read this and it's a good fic, plotty, smutty, hot in all the right places, dirty where it should be, but it warms my heart for the love of friendship that I see in it

  2. Cherries - Snape/Harry NC17, rimming and foodsmut - a happy little fic that makes me smile

  3. Summer Madness Snape/Harry NC17, rimming, object insertion - happy porn, snarky desperate Snape, what's not to love?

  4. Bindings - Albus/Snape NC17, magical bindings - I really love this fic because it lets me understand why Severus would do anything for Albus, and the very complex nature of love

  5. Hagrid's Magical Creature - SS/RH NC17, Snape in a corset. And stockings. Oh, and a collar. Did I mention that the collar has a bell? *g* - still a favourite, although I can't read it and won't be able to until after Deathly Hallows is released. What I love most about it is the possibility that Snape can believe Hagrid loves him.

I very nearly cheated and added in the fic that I'm writing at the moment. The more I write of it, the more I'm growing to love it. ♥

I'm tagging, let me see who hasn't done this yet:
[info]swtalmnd, [info]nimori, [info]amanuensis1, [info]lizardspots (who gets to nominate art yay!) and [info]wikdsushi

Pimp, pimp, pimpetty pimp: the return of X's art and <lj comm

March 3rd, 2007 (06:05 pm)

Many Snape/Harry fen who've been around for more than a few years will remember X's art, Disarmed and The Mouse's Lullaby, before she took them down from the net. I'd never forgotten them, and I know many others haven't either. Both pieces were very striking and powerful, and I always regretted that they'd been taken down.

At Escapade, [info]meri_oddities, [info]dementordelta and I had the opportunity to tell X how much we'd enjoyed her work. I was totally shameless (surprising, I know) about how much I'd loved them and how I'd never forgotten them. X was very touched, and told us that she'd put them back up.

I'm so excited to tell you that I've had an email from her, and Disarmed and The Mouse's Lullaby are back up on X's website. You can email feedback to X from the site. I'll also be linking to the art from Walking the Plank so you'll be able to leave feedback there as well within a couple of days.

Please do take what X asks seriously, and don't take the art and manipulate or take her name off it. People being idiots with someone else's work is why it came down last time, and I'd like to think that it wouldn't happen again. Enjoy the art, because it's truly beautiful work.

---

On another note, I've stolen an idea from [info]julian_black and started a community for Snape/Harry fen to arrange meetups and advertise them. For the big cons, there's often a dedicated community, but for general meetings it often depends upon who's on whose flist to get the word out. [info]snarry_meetup is for all Snarry fen to arrange meetups, large and small. I've asked about and it looks like there's no Snarry comm for the Phoenix Rising convention, so this could be the place to organise the Snape/Harry dinners, room parties and meetings that are sure to happen! If you're a Snape/Harry fan who wants to meet others, then why not join up?

An addendum to my last post...

January 13th, 2007 (05:38 pm)

Does anyone have a small kitchen beater they can bring with them to Escapade? I thought I might try and get a pavlova through customs for the HP meetup on Friday night. My kitchen whiz won't work on the US power system.

Also, anyone living locally to the motel, are you able to point me to a fruit shop and supermarket? I'm going to need double cream, strawberries, kiwifruit, passionfruit and bananananananas. Any directions will be much appreciated! Mmmmm, pavlova. :D

Fic: Unknown SS/HP, NC17, non-con

January 5th, 2007 (12:42 pm)

My whole flist is drowning in Smutmas reveals, so let me add to the deluge. ;)

I received a fabulous rentboy!Snape from [info]gnomad, The Importance of Recordkeeping for the New Entrepreneur. Snape/Harry, fabulous snarking from Snape, and it feels like it was so carefully written for me! Thank you, [info]gnomad! I'm so delighted with my gift and I'll be reading it again and again. ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

I wrote for [info]rexluscus this year. Rex's was a really interesting challenge, and I had three false starts before I could finally get something that I thought would work for her.

Title: Unknown
Rating: NC-17
Pairing: HP/SS
Summary: Years after the war, Snape is caught in a trap. Then he's caught in another one.
Warnings: Non-con, ambiguous consent, violence.
Disclaimer: Unfortunately, none of the characters herein belong to me. They all belong to Ms. JK Rowling, her publishers, her movie makers and her mighty lawyers. Sad, but true...
Author's Note: Rex, I hope you enjoy this! Thanks so much to my beta readers, [info]maeglinyedi and [info]gmth and the person who encouraged me in writing it, [info]magic_helmet.

Has there been a decline in the amount of Snape/Harry fic?

December 17th, 2006 (03:43 pm)

I occasionally see people saying on LJ that there doesn't seem to be as much Snarry around lately. I've been seeing that said as long as I've been in fandom (um, three and a bit years?) and occasionally thought it myself.

When I saw it said again last month, I realised that we had a fairly simple way of telling if that was the case: the [info]sshp_prophet. The Prophet has been going for more than a year now, so there were enough data to have a look at.

However, the following disclaimers apply to the dataset:
- The Prophet collects mainly links on LJ
- The categorisation of links has refined over time
- Early on, WiPs were collected within a special edition and there were limitations on WiP mentions within the normal edition
- A capacity for authors to opt out of being mentioned by the Prophet was formalised in July 2006, but that has only a negligible effect on the numbers

With those limitations in mind, here are some charts tracking Prophet links from September 2005 - November 2006 )

Snape Halloween Postcard Exchange

October 31st, 2006 (08:11 am)

It's that time when the international pigeon is racing back and forth and dropping mail everywhere, and some of that largesse has fallen onto me, something that makes me very happy indeed.

[info]aubrem is once again hosting a Snape Postcard Exchange, themed for Halloween. We don't celebrate Halloween here, so I had to do a little research for one of the cards I sent, and a different type of research altogether for another, and the third is the continuation of a long joke now.

I received three cards and sent three. Everything I received was very clever. I'm so very impressed and here they all are behind the cut. One of them isn't worksafe at all... )

Some cats are sensible...

September 12th, 2006 (09:24 pm)

...and just fucking get on with it (in the immortal words of Susan from Underworld). Others are like my Treasure, who cannot help but be a drama queen.

A sign of the warmer weather: I was combing Cherish tonight while we were having a cuddle after I came home from work and I discovered (dun dun dun) A Flea! So, out with the flea spray.

Treasure is now wandering around the house frothing at the mouth, and I shall be cleaning carpets this weekend. *sigh*

Precious and Cherish are downing cat biscuits happily, but the Treasure is making her way through every room in the house, leaving dribbles of froth behind her.

Thus, a poll:

[Error: Invalid poll ID 819073]

Hmmm. All of the above?

On another note, Happy Birthday, Delta. May it be a year in which dreams come true. *hugs*
